ECLC Earns Science of Reading Recognition

The North Ridgeville Early Childhood Learning Community (ECLC) has been recognized as a Governor’s Science of Reading Champion Award School, an honor that celebrates schools demonstrating a strong commitment to high-quality literacy instruction aligned with the Science of Reading.

This recognition highlights the district’s dedication to building strong foundational literacy skills for its youngest learners. At ECLC, educators work intentionally to ensure students develop the critical reading and writing skills needed not only for academic success, but for lifelong learning.

Literacy is a cornerstone of education, and the work happening in North Ridgeville classrooms reflects a deep commitment to supporting students from the very beginning of their educational journey. By focusing on evidence-based practices and intentional instruction, ECLC staff are helping preschool and kindergarten students build the skills and confidence they need to grow into strong, capable readers.

Director of Curriculum Dr. Heather Miller praised the staff for their dedication and impact. “The work of our Early Childhood Learning Community staff is truly remarkable. Teaching foundational literacy at this level requires both expertise and passion, and our educators consistently go above and beyond to meet the needs of every learner. Because of their commitment to the Science of Reading and high-quality instruction, our youngest students are developing the essential skills that will support their success. I am incredibly proud of the strong foundation our team is building for these students each and every day,” Miller said. “We are also grateful for the leadership of Principal Mrs. Pinzone, who in her first year at ECLC has helped guide and support this important work. This recognition is a meaningful reflection of the dedication and collaboration of the entire ECLC team.”
