Social-Emotional Learning

According to CASEL (Collaborative for Academic, Social, and Emotional Learning), SEL (Social-Emotional Learning) is  "an integral part of education and human development. SEL is the process through which all young people and adults acquire and apply the knowledge, skills, and attitudes to develop healthy identities, manage emotions and achieve personal and collective goals, feel and show empathy for others, establish and maintain supportive relationships, and make responsible and caring decisions.

SEL advances educational equity and excellence through authentic school-family-community partnerships to establish learning environments and experiences that feature trusting and collaborative relationships, rigorous and meaningful curriculum and instruction, and ongoing evaluation. SEL can help address various forms of inequity and empower young people and adults to co-create thriving schools and contribute to safe, healthy, and just communities."

You can read more about SEL on the CASEL website.

Panorama Survey

Thank you for being valued partners in the education of our students. We truly appreciate your continued support as we work together to help every child grow academically, socially, and emotionally.

As part of our commitment to social-emotional learning (SEL), students in grades 3–12 participated in the Student Competency and Wellbeing Survey during the 2024–2025 school year. Throughout the year, they engaged in SEL lessons using programs such as CharacterStrong, Zones of Regulation, Everyday Speech, and The Amazing Shake. These lessons helped students better understand key SEL concepts and reflect on their own skills and growth.

Looking ahead to the 2025–2026 school year, students in grades 1–12 will take the survey three times over the course of the year. The survey takes approximately 10 minutes to complete and focuses on students' self-reflection in areas such as:

  • Emotion regulation

  • Self-management

  • Social awareness

We encourage all students to participate, as their feedback provides valuable insights that help us better support their wellbeing and align our practices with their needs. If a student feels they cannot answer a question, they may skip it. All responses will remain confidential.

We are partnering with Panorama Education, a trusted third-party vendor, to administer the surveys. The Fall 2025 survey will be conducted at Liberty Elementary, RHTA, NRAC, and NRHS from September 29 to October 3, 2025.
