OELPA
Ohio English Language Proficiency Assessment (OELPA):
Each English Learner will be given an opportunity to exit the program by demonstrating proficiency on the Ohio English Language Proficiency Assessment (OELPA). The OELPA is an annual test that is designed to measure an English Learner’s mastery in four language domains:
Reading Writing
Listening Speaking
The OELPA is given to all students classified as English Learners in grades K-12 during February or March of each school year. Students are scored separately in each language domain on a scale of Level 1 (emerging) to Level 5 (proficient). English Learners who achieve any combination of scores of Level 4 and/or Level 5 in all four language domains will exit the EL Program, effective with the start of the following school year in August. Parents will be duly notified by both the district and the state regarding the results of the OELPA and future placement in the North Ridgeville EL Program.
